RSS Awareness Day
Today is May 1st: RSS Awareness Day, a day to raise awareness about what RSS is, what it does and why you should use it.
RSS or Really Simple Syndication, is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines, and podcasts. An RSS document (which is called a “feed” or “web feed” or “channel”) contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with web sites in an automated manner that can be piped into special programs or filtered displays.

What to buy?

I’m debating spending money on one of two things right now, Boss pedals for guitar or a double bass pedal for my drum kit. I am mainly a guitarist/songwriter and the GNX3 multi-effects unit I had been using is sort of broken. So I’d need a delay, tremolo, chorus and distortion pedal, which could cost me around $400. I am also playing drums right now with a band and I kind of want to get better with double bass, and my drumming in general. Stay tuned to find out which one I get….exciting right?

Monotonix & Old Time Relijun
*(The above flyer is obviously not for the show I saw, but is the only cool looking one I could find).
So over the weekend, I saw this band Monotonix (from Tel Aviv, Israel) and Old Time Relijun (from Olympia, WA) at Pomona College. I missed Monotonix’s show at The Smell in downtown LA the night before, so I was forced to drive out to Pomona if I wanted to see them. Pomona is about a 40 minute drive for me, not too bad.
I arrived to see only the last 2 songs of Monotonix’ set, which was still cool. They played in the audience as usual (instead of on the stage). My friend and I helped the drummer set his drums up on the bar for the last song, and also helped him play them. I ended up getting one of their shirts. The other band, Old Time Relijun, I knew nothing about except that they were on K Records. The singer/guitarist plays a $20 guitar, and they have an upright bass player and a sax player. They turned out to be good and got into several hypnotic grooves. Overall the whole show was a great time.
You can check both bands out here…

Drums Coming

Just wanted to mention that I’m going to start doing more Drum coverage on this site. The site title is Guitar Bassman, but I am very into drums and play them. Expect to see drum coverage in the next few days.

The RIAA
This is just something I came across when browsing the forums on Harmony-Central.com. It’s an article from the Washington Post concerning the RIAA’s (Recording Industry Association of America) stance on downloading and ripping CD’s. Kind of crazy…

Introduction
Welcome to GuitarBassMan.com! This is a blog for me to discuss Guitar, Bass, Musical Instruments, related topics and just random stuff. Just so you know, I actually don’t own a Fender Bassman, but wish I did. Anyway, I’m very excited to begin doing this…I also intend to change some of the look of this blog over time, so bear with me. Thanks!
